About Our Therapists

Brenda Wilkinson, co-owner of Four Winds has been a BC Registered Massage Therapist since 1984. Besides the standard massage therapy treatments, her post-graduate training includes many years of studying craniosacral therapy, neuromuscular therapy and trigger point therapy.

B.C. Registered Massage Therapists (RMT) are recognized internationally for the extent of their training and skill. The intensive three year program qualifies them to provide the finest treatments available in B.C. We endeavour to use B.C. RMT’s when ever possible.

Brigitte Rahn has been a BC Registered Massage Therapist since 1994 and is a graduate of WCCMT, Vancouver. She is a certified yoga therapist with additional training in fitness leadership, Thai massage & foot reflexology, aromatherapy and water massage.
In 2005 she began teaching anatomy and massage related classes. She has since trained as an adult educator, developed and taught her own courses as well as teaching numerous courses at WCCMT, Victoria.
Prior to massage, her first love was the theatre. She has a BFA from York University and worked in stage management at the Shaw Festival & Young People's Theatre in Ontario.

British Columbia’s Registered Massage Therapists

British Columbia’s Registered Massage Therapists are the most highly trained in North America & arguably, in the world. Not surprising if one only checks the standards set out to become a Registered Massage Therapist in B.C.:

Graduate from an accredited school, meaning the completion of a 3000-hour program (the equivalent of seven university semesters)

Obtain at least 70% on a rigorous two-day examination

Obtain First Aid certification

Supply three letters of reference for personal character

Pay a hefty fee

Have a Solemn Declaration notarized

Once the applicant is accepted & becomes a Registered Massage Therapist, to remain Registered he/she must abide by:

The Health Professions Act

The Human Rights Act

The Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act

And the regulations & bylaws of the College of Massage Therapists of B.C. Which among other important points include the following:

The Registrant must act in the best interest of a patient

Only provide a treatment if the Registrant has a reasonable expectation that it will be of benefit to the patient

A Registrant shall maintain confidentiality of patient information

This is a serious commitment on the part of each Registered Massage Therapist. As well, serious protection for the public on the part of the College of Massage Therapists of B.C.

Unregistered body-worker/masseuses/masseurs do not have the appropriate education for anything beyond a relaxation massage. Furthermore, their receipts are invalid for tax purposes & many extended health care companies will not honour them either.

So, if you’re going to spend the time, & pay the fee to have a massage, it just makes sense to ensure that you go to a Registered Massage Therapist.

From the College of Massage Therapists of B.C. Website

The College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia is the regulatory body for massage therapy in British Columbia:

It is the duty of the College at all times:

· To serve and protect the public

· To exercise its powers and discharge its responsibilities under all enactments in the public interest.

The College of Massage Therapists of BC serves and protects the public by regulating the profession of massage therapy in BC in accordance with the duties and objects set out in the Health Professions Act. We believe in personal integrity, administrative fairness and professional accountability.

So, if you’ve had a difficult experience with a massage from someone unregistered (or Registered for that matter) don’t hesitate to contact the College of Massage Therapists of B.C. in writing,
